5th COMSWARE Conference 2011
The Fifth International Conference on COMmunication System SoftWAre and MiddlewaRE(COMSWARE) was held on July 4-5, 2011 in Verona, Italy. The COMSWARE conference is the premier international forum for researchers, business leaders, educators and practitioners to present and discuss recent innovations, advances in technology, experiences in current systems and potential concerns in the field of communication systems software and middleware systems.
4th International Women’s Summit (IWS) 2011, Zurich (Switzerland)
The fourth International Women’s Summit (IWS) 2011 hosted by World YWCA was held in Zurich , Switzerland , on July 12-13, 2011. The theme of 4th IWS was “Women Creating a Safe World ”.
4th ECO Ministerial Summit, Kabul (Afghanistan)
Ministers of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) organized their 4th session in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan on 13 July 2011. The participating members focused on resolution of transit challenges and decrease of custom tariffs between member states of the organization. The next session will be held in Iran within the next two years.
1st National Energy Investment Summit (NEIS), New Delhi (India)
The inaugural National Energy Investment Summit (NEIS) was held in New Delhi on July 21-22. The NEIS provides a platform in the country that offers capital raising companies an opportunity to meet with investors looking to invest in projects and technologies in the energy sector in India. The theme of 2011 NEIS was “Invest in Green, Invest for Sustainability”. The two-day Summit was organised and hosted by business information group naseba.
17-Nations Euro Zone Summit 2011, Brussels (Belgium)
17-nation Euro Zone Summit was held on 21-22 July 2011 in Brussels, capital of Belgium with the objective of finalizing a second rescue package for debt plagued Greece and calm the financial markets of Europe. The participating nations agreed on Marshall Plan for Europe to revive the financial markets of Europe. Marshall Plan also known as European Recovery Program (ERP) is a major aspect of the foreign aid program of the United States and greatly contributed to the economic recovery of Europe.
8th Global Marketing Dynamics Conference, Jaipur (India)
The 2011 Global Marketing Dynamics Conference was held in India for the first time in Jaipur, on July 25-27, 2011.The eighth year of the conference was focused on discussing the challenges, issues and developments in marketing dynamics emerging as a tool to determine marketing strategies. The theme of this year conference was Transformative Marketing.
2nd Desktop Summit 2011
The Desktop Summit 2011 was jointly organised by GNOME and KDE communities in Berlin, Germany on August 6-12, 2011.The Desktop Summit is a joint initiative by GNOME and KDE to encourage the development and use of a free desktop. The shared objectives include the exchange of technology, cooperation on projects and developing new opportunities with Free and Open Source Software on the desktop. GNOME and KDE are Free Software communities that drive the user interfaces of many GNU/Linux-powered devices, ranging from smartphones to laptops, or personal media centers.
9th ASEAN-India Economic Ministers Meeting 2011, Manado (Indonesia)
The Ninth ASEAN Economic Ministers-India Consultations were held on August 13, 2011 in Manado, Indonesia. The Ministers have agreed to a structured private sector engagement in the five areas of pharmaceuticals, innovation and skills training, information technology, manufacturing and infrastructure.
NASSCOM BPO Summit 2011
NASSCOM BPO Summit 2011 was organised at Gurgaon in Haryana on August 22 – 24, 2011. Software industry body Nasscom has projected the growth rate in software market to 16-18 percent during 2011-12 fiscal.
India-Japan Global Partnership Summit, Tokyo (Japan)
A three-day India-Japan Global Partnership Summit, IJGPS concluded in Tokyo on 7 September 2011. The policymakers, opinion leaders and business experts exchanged ideas on strengthening economic ties between the two Asian nations, besides greater regional integration.
1st UN Summit on Non-Communicable Diseases 2011, New York (USA)
The NCD Summit 2011, officially called the ‘High-level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases’ took place September 19-20, 2011 in New York, USA. The UN HLM is only the 27th such meeting in the UN’s history – and only the second on a disease, the first being the UN’s Special Session on HIV/AIDS in 2001, which led to the establishment of the Global Fund.
66th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, New York (USA)
The UNGA’s regular session begins each year in September.The 66th regular session of the General Assembly opened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 13, 2011.The 66th session was presided over by former Qatari permanent representative to the UN Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser. The General Assembly is the main policymaking and representative organ of the United Nations.
4th South Africa-EU Summit 2011,
A South Africa-EU Summit was held in Kruger, South Africa on 15 September 2011. South Africa and the European Union (EU) concluded their annual summit on a positive note, signalling that they could be close to resolving their issues, in particular global governance, climate change, trade, development issues, the Joint Africa-EU strategy, the South Africa-EU strategic partnership and peace and security topics in Africa. The next annual meeting will be held in Brussels in 2012.
The 2011 Web 2.0 Summit was held October 17-19, 2011 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, CA USA. The theme was “The Data Frame”. The Web 2.0 Summit (formerly known as the Web 2.0 Conference) is an annual event, held in San Francisco, California, featuring discussions about the World Wide Web.
The 5th India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) summit was held in Pretoria, South Africa, from 17 to 19 Oct-ober 2011.The theme of this year’s Forum was “Competitiveness through synergy – from knowledge generation to social development.” The Summit came out with the Tshwane Declaration and set a target to increase the intra IBSA trade from existing $20 billion to $25 billion by 2015. India will host the next IBSA summit in 2013.
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), Perth (Australia)
The 2011 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was held in Perth, Western Australia, from 28 to 30 October 2011. The theme was ‘Building National Resilience, Building Global Resilience’. A new web portal offering a single window to the Commonwealth was launched at the Heads of Government meeting in Perth, Australia, on 28 October 2011.The new portal will complement initiatives to bridge the digital divide and make information and communication technology widely available to Commonwealth citizens. Commonwealth leaders meeting have agreed to a series of reforms to strengthen the role of Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) in its dealings with serious or persistent violations of Commonwealth political values.
CHOGM 2013 will be held in Sri Lanka.
G20 (Major Economies) Summit 2011, Cannes (France)
The 6th G20 (Major Economies) summit was held in Cannes, France on 3 – 4 November, 2011 to discuss key issues in the global economy. The Cannes G-20 meeting carries forward the official theme “New World, New Ideas” used also for the Deauville G-8 Summit this past May. Eurozone debt crisis dominated the Summit in Cannes. The other issues discussed in thesummit were global imbalances, financial transactions tax, tax evasion and reform of the international monetary system.
APEC summit 2011, Honolulu (Hawaii)
APEC summit 2011 was held in Honolulu, Hawaii from 8 – 13 November 2011.Under the chairmanship of US President Barak Obama, leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum agreed a comprehensive set of measures to increase economic growth and job creation by expanding trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. Leaders agreed to adopt market-driven innovation policies, reduce tariffs and eliminate other barriers to trade in environmental goods and services, and improve regulatory environments to reduce unnecessary burdens on businesses.
19th ASEAN Summit, Bali (Indonesia)
The 19th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits were held at Bali from 17-19 November 2011. The world leaders, Barack Obama, Ban Ki-Moon, Wen Jiabao and about 15 Heads of State attended the discussions. Indonesia is the current chair of ASEAN and the theme earmarked for this year is the “ASEAN Community in a Global Community of Nations” – expected to be achieved by 2022.The major decision taken by the ASEAN leaders on 17 November 2011 was to make Myanmar the ASEAN Chair in 2014. At the closing ceremoney of the summit, the Indonesian President transferred the ASEAN Chair 2012 to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
9th ASEAN-India Summit 2011, Bali (Indonesia)
The 9th ASEAN-India Summit, chaired by H.E. Dr. Susilo Bambang. Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia, was held on 19 November 2011 in Bali, Indonesia.
Global Microcredit Summit 2011, Valladolid (Spain)
The 2011 Global Microcredit Summit (GLOMCS) was held in Valladolid, Spain from 14 to 17 November, 2011.
WEF’s India Economic Summit 2011, Mumbai (India)
The 2011 India Economic Summit was held in Mumbai for the first time in the 26 year history of the Summit. In partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and with the support of the Government of India, this year’s summit took place on 12-14 November 2011 in Mumbai, under the theme Linking Leadership and Livelihood. The Summit will return to New Delhi in 2012 and 2014 in time for India’s next national election.
The 17th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit was held on November 10 and 11, 2011 in the South Province of Maldives ( Addu Atoll, Fuvahmulah ). The 17th SAARC Summit’s theme is “Building Bridges”-both in terms of physical connectivity and figurative political dialogue. In the 20-point declaration, the SAARC leaders decided to direct the SAFTA (South Asuab Free Trade Agreement) Ministerial Council to intensify efforts to reduce the sensitive list as well as reduce non-tariff barriers to trade and to direct the SAARC Finance Ministers to chart a proposal that would allow for greater flow of financial capital and intra-regional long-term investment. The next (18th) SAARC Summit will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal.
CII’s CFO Summit 2011, Mumbai
The 7th edition of CII’s national flagship Conference for the Chief Financial Officers and Finance Heads – The CFO Summit was held in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 3 December 2011. The theme of the Conference is ‘Changing Dynamics of Finance Leadership’.
United Nations Climate Change Conference, Durban (South Africa)
The 2011 United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in Durban, South Africa, from 28 November to 11 December 2011 to establish a new treaty to limit carbon emissions. The conference led to progress regarding the creation of a Green Climate Fund for which a management framework was adopted. The fund is to distribute US$100bn per year to help poor countries adapt to climate impacts.
Eighth WTO Ministerial Conference, Geneva (Switzerland)
The Eighth session of WTO Ministerial Conference was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 15 to 17 December 2011. In parallel to the Plenary Session, where Ministers made prepared statements, three Working Sessions took place with the following themes: “Importance of the Multilateral Trading System and the WTO”, “Trade and Development” and “Doha Development Agenda”. The Conference approved the accessions of Russia, Samoa and Montenegro. In the final session, Ministers adopted a number of decisions and the Chair made a concluding statement.
